Whilst appointees will have a base practice within NPC, they may be asked to work at other practices across our group. We do however limit this as much as possible as we appreciate continuity is vital to effective primary care.

Haydon Bridge and Allendale medical practice is looking for a Salaried GP for 4-6 sessions per week to join our innovative team.

We are a long-standing Training Practice  (GP trainees and medical students) with a reputation for high quality clinical care, very high patient satisfaction ratings and consistently high QOF achievement. Our focus is to provide excellent care for our patients while supporting the wellbeing of the team

We are a friendly small practice who have regular team meetings and catch-up time. We promote an inclusive family atmosphere and we work closely as a team.

We are keen to hear from candidates who have an interest in teaching med students and candidates who would like to explore any special interests

We provide GP and family health services to patients across a large a beautiful area of rural Northumberland.. We are a well-established, forwarding thinking practice looking after approximately 5,500 patients from our 2 sites: one in Haydon Bridge and one in Allendale. We also look after 2 small local care homes and have a weekly ward round with both of these homes.

The practice team currently consists of five GPs (3.4 wte), one Nurse Practitioner, one Practice Nurse and two Healthcare Assistants. In addition, we have medicine technicians and coders to reduce admin for the GP’s.

Main duties of the job

As a Salaried GP the post holder will be a key clinician within the team at Northumbria Primary Care Limited. A job plan will be agreed with you the post holder who will provide general medical services and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.

As a GP practice, we work with flexibility and independence to run the surgery based on what is best for our patients and staff, and additionally we have the regular and consistent support of the management team to help us to focus on what is clinically important.

We have monthly educational afternoons for GPs. Once per quarter during these sessions we join all other NPC practices for an NPC-wide teaching session.

The successful applicant will be invited to these monthly educational events with fellow NPC GPs, be entitled to 5 days study leave (pro rata) and have indemnity fully covered by NPC.

We have a mixed appointment model using telephone triage and telephone consultation, econsult and face to face appointments as appropriate. We endeavour to match appointment length to complexity, with 15 minute slots routine for face-to face appointments. We have paramedics and a community matron helping with home visiting as appropriate.

We have regular monthly in house education timeout sessions as well as a quarterly NPC practice wide education sessions covering a range of topics dictated by the needs of our clinicians.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary Practice team to provide general medical services for the needs of the practice population and to help ensure the Practice continues to provide the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

The post holder will manage a busy caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting.

The post holder is expected to contribute to the operational and strategic management of the practices within Northumbria Primary care and there are opportunities for personal and professional development across a wide range of areas within primary and secondary care. The post holder will also be expected to take responsibility for leading agreed areas of clinical and corporate performance/service delivery.

General Practice Fellowship Offer –
We fully support this two-year programme, available to all newly-qualified GPs and nurses working substantively in general practice, with an explicit focus on working within and across a Primary Care Network (PCN). Integrated care systems (ICSs) should encourage all eligible clinicians to sign up, and aim for as close to 100% coverage as possible.
